The selection process for the SBI Probationary Officer (PO) Recruitment 2025 consists of three phases: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Psychometric Test, Group Exercise & Interview. Each stage is designed to assess candidates’ skills and competencies comprehensively.
The Preliminary Examination is the first stage, conducted online with a total of 100 marks. It includes three sections: English Language (30 marks), Quantitative Aptitude (35 marks), and Reasoning Ability (35 marks), with a total duration of one hour. Candidates must complete each section within the allotted 20 minutes. Based on aggregate marks, a category-wise merit list will be prepared, and approximately 10 times the number of vacancies will be shortlisted for the Main Examination.
The Main Examination is the second phase and consists of two parts: an Objective Test (200 marks) and a Descriptive Test (50 marks). The Objective Test includes four sections—Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General Awareness (Economy/Banking), and English Language. Each section has a specific time limit. The Descriptive Test requires candidates to write an essay and a letter, which they must type on the computer. The combined duration of the Main Examination is 3 hours and 30 minutes.
The table below summarizes the structure of both the Preliminary and Main Examinations:
Examination Section Questions Marks Duration
Preliminary English Language 30 30 20 minutes
Quantitative Aptitude 35 35 20 minutes
Reasoning Ability 35 35 20 minutes
Main (Objective) Reasoning & Computer Aptitude 40 60 50 minutes
Data Analysis & Interpretation 30 60 45 minutes
General Awareness (Economy/Banking) 60 60 45 minutes
English Language 40 20 40 minutes
Main (Descriptive) Essay and Letter Writing – 50 30 minutes
After the Main Examination, candidates are shortlisted for the Psychometric Test, Group Exercise, and Personal Interview based on their performance. The Psychometric Test is used for personality profiling and is followed by a Group Exercise (20 marks) and Personal Interview (30 marks). The combined marks for this phase are 50.
The final merit list is prepared by normalizing the marks from the Main Examination (Objective + Descriptive) and Phase III. The Main Examination contributes 75% to the final score, while Phase III accounts for the remaining 25%. Marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not considered in the final selection.
Negative marking is applicable in both the Preliminary and Main Examinations, with a deduction of 1/4th mark for each incorrect answer. Results for each phase will be announced on the official SBI website, and the entire process ensures transparency and fairness in selecting the most qualified candidates for the Probationary Officer position.
